This slow cooker chicken is creamy, cheesy, rich and velvety. It’s infused with Italian herbs and garlic, with subtle tanginess. It’s high protein, gluten-free and low-carb.

There are probably countless slow-cooker chicken recipes out there. I’ve tried them all. But what makes this recipe stand out?

First, it uses simple ingredients that I’m pretty sure you can find in your pantry right now. I hate it when I need to cook something quick (yet delicious), but I must go grocery shopping to get the ingredients.

While I love grocery shopping, it can be a hassle when I don’t have time to spare. Now, convenience is just one thing that makes this recipe stand out.

Creamy Cream Cheese Chicken

Ingredients and Substitutes

Chicken breasts, skinless and boneless (2 lbs) – You can use chicken thighs for a juicier option. If you want to switch things up, you can use turkey breasts or tofu for a plant-based alternative.

Italian seasoning (2 tbsp) – If you don’t have Italian seasoning, you can make it at home by mixing oregano, basil, thyme, and rosemary.

Onion powder (1 tbsp) – Try substituting for freshly grated onions (or shallots) or using garlic flakes.

Dried parsley (1 tsp)

Sea salt (1 tsp)

Black pepper (1/2 tsp)

Garlic, minced (6 cloves) – Garlic powder, flakes, or paste can also be used as substitutes.

Cream of mushroom soup (2 10.5 oz cans) – You can also use cream of chicken, cream of celery, or any other creamy option you enjoy having.

Cream cheese softened (8 oz) – Try using mascarpone as an alternative or plant-based cream cheese for a vegetarian option.

How To Modify This Recipe?

  • Add Vegetables: Try adding diced carrots, spinach, celery, mushrooms, or peas to transform this into a one-pot meal.
  • Cheese Lovers: Mix in shredded cheddar or parmesan with the cream cheese (there is no such thing as too much cheese).
  • LowCarb Option: Replace the cream of mushroom soup with unsweetened almond milk or coconut cream for a low-carb option.
  • Spice It Up: Add red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to give it a little kick.

Storage Tips

Any leftovers you have, you can transfer them to an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

If you want to keep it for longer, you can place it in a freezer-safe container and keep it in the freezer for up to 2 months. This makes a great meal prep recipe or a go-to option when you don’t have anything prepared.

When you’re ready to have it again, place it on the stove over medium-low heat. Make sure you constantly stir and cook for 10 minutes or until it’s all warmed through.

While you can also do it in the microwave, I prefer how it comes out from the stove.
