Pin ItThe combination of ingredients in this recipe creates a powerful and delicious combination of flavors that will keep your taste buds happy.
This recipe serves up to six servings, which is why it’s ideal for families. But, if you are on your own, this recipe is a great option for meal prepping.
Ingredients and Substitutes
Chicken breasts, skinless and boneless (2 lbs) – If you prefer dark meat, you can use chicken thighs as a juicier option.
Ranch dressing seasoning mix (1 oz packet) – If you don’t have ranch mix, try combining garlic powder, onion powder, dried parsley, and dill.
Dry au jus gravy mix (1 oz packet) – You can also use brown gravy mix or my favorite option, onion soup mix.
Butter, unsalted (1/2 cup) – For a creamier option, try using ghee.
Pepperoncini peppers, sliced and drained (1 cup) – Banana peppers are also a good option if you don’t have pepperoncini peppers.
Pepper juice, from the jar of pepperoncini peppers (1/4 cup) – This enhances the flavor of the chicken so make sure you don’t skip this ingredient.
How to Make Crockpot Mississippi Chicken
Step 1. Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker.
Step 2. Add the ranch seasoning and the gravy mix.
Step 3. Cut the butter into squares and place it on top of the seasoned chicken.
Step 4. Add the pepperoncini peppers and the pepper juice.
Step 5. Cook on high heat for about 4 hours. You can also cook it in low heat for 6-8 hours. Cooking it in lower heat allows the flavors to combine and the chicken to become tender.
Step 6. Once the chicken is cooked, shred it using two forks before serving.

Storage Tips
If you have some leftovers, transfer the chicken and the sauce to an airtight container. You can keep it in the fridge for up to 4 days.
For those using this recipe for meal prepping, place it in individual portions so it’s easier to reheat, and it keeps the chicken’s moisture.
This Mississippi chicken is also a good option to keep in the freezer. Place the chicken in individual freezer-safe bags and keep it in the freezer for up to 3 months.
When you want to have this delicious recipe again, place it in a skillet over medium heat. Make sure you add a splash of chicken broth or water to avoid the sauce from drying out.
