Pin ItHow I Would Modify This Recipe
- Add Some Orange Flavors: Add the zest of a large orange to the sugar before mixing. The combination of dark chocolate and orange is just heavenly.
- Berry Flavors: Swap the chocolate chips for dried cranberries, cherries, or blueberries.
- Nutty Crunch: Add ¼ of toasted pecans or walnuts to add some extra texture.
My Tips & Tricks
- Don’t Skip the Blending: The recipe uses blended cottage cheese. If you don’t blend it, you will end up having lumpy scones and not silken scones.
- Avoid Overmixing: Handle the dough with care. Mix just until it’s combined. Otherwise, it can overdevelop the gluten and lead to tough scones.
- Sharp Cuts: When you are cutting the dough, push the knife straight down and pull it out. Don’t saw back and forth. This can prevent the scone from rising to its full potential.

My Storage Tips
Place any leftovers into an airtight container and keep them at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you want to keep them for longer, place them in the fridge for up to 6 days.
You can freeze the baked scones for up to 3 months. Just make sure you wrap them individually and place them in a freezer-safe bag.
